"In all our technology, we have lost touch with the earth, our heaters and air conditioners robbing us of the drama of seasons, our cars keeping out feet from pacing the land, our concrete and our shoes and our carpet delivering us from the feeling of unprocessed earth. We live on top of the created world, I think to myslef, not in it. And this van, (background: they are travelling in a VW van across the US) this great wheelchair with a radio and bed, we sit in it and roll at unthinkable speeds across a dessert that would have cost our forefathers a season." -Don miller
so i read this quote today on this guy andy's (who i know from qwanoes) blog today and i just really thought about it and how true it is, and how much we take for granted the monumentalness of the earth and how much we miss out on the beautiful experiance of our planet in its more organic state.... now-a-days when we want nature we go to a designated place in the middle of the city called a park... its sorta sad feeling to think that we have less and less natural earth to experiance every second we live here, we grow more and more detached from the old things we know everyday... we look at the lives of our parents and grandparents and are shocked and dismaied at the changes that have occured in the last 40,50,60, years its increadible how much more distant from the earth will our children be when they are our ages? will there be any of it left even for our grandchildren? we never acutally think about what we have untill we realize we've lost it... it saddens me to think that, though i know how true it is... re-aquainte yourself with nature realize the complexity and beauty in something so simple as taking a walk in a feild... or squishing your feet in the mud... (secretly my favorite feeling in the whole world...) dont take the earths beauty for granted we could never reproduce something so beautiful in our man made world...
